Present in books of 25 sheets and separated from each other by papers of silk, gold is of a thickness between 4 and 8 thousandth of a millimetre.

It may be pure (24-carat gold) or other metals added during manufacture (green gold, white gold, yellow gold, platinum gold, palladium gold...).
